Novvember!

Novvember, the annual Vic Viper build-off is upon us once again.

Here is how to make one:

Here is how to take the photo for the map:

With all the new parts that have come out this past year (new brackets!), I'm sure it's going to be an interesting month.

Electronic Warfare Frigate "Kitsune"

Electronic Warfare Frigate "Kitsune"
This great microscale ship by spook (Tim Zarki) is about 5 years old, but I just now discovered it (As well as the builder). The colors look very nice to me, and I really love the antennae. I also recommend anyone not familiar with spook's stuff to take a few minutes and look through his photostream. There's lots of other great MOCs in there as well.

Ma.Ktoberfest 2012

So October, Ma.Ktober is upon us once again. What is that you ask? A contest that occurs every October revolving around the Machinen Krieger universe, thanks to .Tromas, who has laid out all the guidelines here.

If this year turns out anything close to what last years competition did, it'll definitely be fun to watch and/or participate in.

So forget the Halloween MOCs, spill out some bricks and get your Ma.K on!

The Boss

The Boss
I love odd and uniquely shaped fighters, and this fighter by Nannan Z is a great example. Not only is it round, but it also includes spikes, sawblades, and a drill (Great for up close fighting).

Solid Fuel Starfighter

Earth - (BiS) ƒernald has built this wonderful Solid Fuel Starfighter which fits a minifigure under the front hatch. As with many posts here lately, it was built for the Real World Starfighters Contest on Flickr. This instantly reminded me of Voyager and the Apollo command modules. The dark orange works well as a substitute for the heat shielding and its mostly round shape is somewhat unique, especially for a fighter. The back view is well detailed and uses a few neat tricks. I am quite fond of the support structure for the turning thrusters and the lighting in the photo adds a warm touch. ƒernald also has quite a number of nice looking microbuilds on his photostream.

Glawfish Recon Vessel

Glawfish Recon Vessel
The Glawfish Recon Vessel by SuperHardcoreDave (Dave Steeves) is one of the more interesting fighters I've seen in shape. The front looks more or less like a normal fighter, but the rear looks almost organic, like a lionfish or similar creature.

'STALKER' INTERCEPTOR BOMBER

'STALKER' INTERCEPTOR BOMBER
Pierre E Fieschi is more well known for his microscale spaceships, but this vertical fighter is quite nice as well. As if the well designed fighter wasn't enough, Pierre even included a docking platform and ladder.

Comrade Rocks

Courtesy Soyuz R-a11 MARAUDER by nate_decastro
Kuiper Belt- (BiS) When in space, there are two things one has to look out for- enemy lasers, and space debris. While the tattered remains of spacecraft and the like can often appear, the most common form of debris is space rocks. This craft, the Soyuz R-a11 MARAUDER, has not only made peace with the rocks, it has been quite utilitarian in its design, and incorporated them! Not only would this craft be something formidable to run (physically) into, a skirmish with it would also be ill-advised. From the impressive panel-mounted turrets, to the hidden bombs on the underside, and the well-camouflaged radar dish/laser.

Ramming Speed!

Tangent-Class Assault Cruiser
Courtesy Tangent-Class Assault Carrier by Commander Hawk
Earth- (BiS) While starships and spacecraft are nice and all, nothing in the sky can match the brute force a tank can have on the ground. Massive weapons capacity, sheets upon sheets of armor, vehicle storage, and troop carrying capacity are all some of the great advantages to tank use. This lil' guy has the design of a tank, the slickness of a sports car, and the armaments of Rambo after a 50% off sale at the Weapon Store. The radar array on top is also worthy of note, as well as the excellent use of the Technic joint connectors.

Photon Lasers

Bandit
Courtesy Bandit by pasukaru76
Planet Higgs-B- (BiS) With the power of engines and spacecraft rising almost daily, and major discoveries being constantly made, soon we will enter the age of interspace travel. And with that, we will have to re-design our spacecraft, just like Pascal did with this MOC. The red cockpit really stands out against the minimal colours of the rest of the craft, and it appears to come in peace. But be careful not to ruffle the pilot's feather's else he decides to use it's ample armaments.

Voyager 2

Voyager 2 by Apojove
While it's not Sci-fi (Not counting the first Star Trek movie), this wonderful model of the Voyager probe by Apojove is certainly in space. He's included a great amount of detail and realism on the craft, and even included a nice display stand and engineer.

Project HAVE SHIVER

Justin Vaughn aka Mainman has created Project HAVE SHIVER for the "Real World Starfighter" contest occurring in the Starfighters group on Flickr. This industrial monstrosity is about as real world as it gets. Who needs aerodynamic and sleek spacecraft when there is no atmosphere to be aerodynamic in? Who needs wings at all? The copious use of flex tubing, lightsaber handles and droid arms makes for a more believable support structure than any prefab pieces could. Buffing the printing off the Naboo planet from set #9674 makes those pieces more universally usable than if they were left printed. Justin also has a few pictures of the loadout and descriptions of the different areas of the ship. I especially enjoy the back view as well. There's also a quite detailed description for the photo to match the details of the ship. I would definitely have to give this one of the top votes in the contest so far.

BT Panorama

Built by granada_turnier, I found this Blacktron Panorama to be a fairly brilliant build. The greenish background for the composite shot was a great choice to offset the colors of the ship. For those who were around when the only space theme fell under the Legoland moniker; now known as Classic Space, this ship retains much of that classic styling. yet incorporates just enough modern techniques to set it apart. It immediately reminded me of set #6894 - Blacktron Invader probably due to the trans-red wedge plates on the nacelles.

Click on all sizes to really get the full effect of the composite shot. The photostream also has lots of cool old cars, tractors and other vehicles for those who like reference material for "real world" mocs.

In Space, No One Can Hear You Scan

Deep Space Communications and ECM ship 'Oddity'
Courtesy ECM ship "Oddity" by Karf Oohlu
Deep Space- (BiS) While many of the satelites and spacecraft we've been seeing recently are for the real-world starfighters contest, it appears that this one is spurred on by imagination and creativity. Or, atleast, that's what the space program directors would WANT you to think. While it may not be completely clear as to its purpose, it's still a mighty-fine looking spacecraft. The sensor arrays, spalashes of blue, and excelent engine use are all part of what make this craft great. Plus, It's got FINS!

The Sparrowhawk

One thing that makes a great starfighter stand out from the rest is the angles, and  flickr user Bricking It does a good job at pulling this off! After impressing us all with the LL-828 Wildgoose, Bricking It pulled out another cool neo classic space creation, the Sparrowhawk. This build is a mid-sized starfighter, great for cruising the galaxy, and is reinforced with heavy armor. You can see more, here!

Yellow River

ISA Yangtze Patrol Frigate
Courtesy ISA Yangtze Partol Frigate by Hawk
Titan- (BiS) While sleek, sporty, eye catching starfighters and curvaceous command ships may be what we envision of the future, the current reality is that satelites have gone the furthest distance from Earth while still being in the realm of current feasibility. This great satellite, the Yangtze, seems to be an attack drone, programmed to fight off threats to the Earth from above the skies. With an elegant half-stud offset between the dark grey cheese slopes near the back of the ship to the excelent forward section, this craft makes an amazing Lego spacecraft!

Boeing C-15 "Strike Eagle" lunar starfighter

The "Real World Starfighter" Contest is really heating up lately. This offering by Shannon Sproule is rooted heavily in early NASA design aesthetic. Complete with a moon rover, the contest entry is visually nostalgic and functional, with just enough stickers to make the markings blend into the built. As with some other recent MOCs, this also incorporates the Death Star elements in a clean and efficient manner.

Jauss-Addar Shipping Fleet

A stunning microscale shipping fleet by Titolan. The offset fence pieces, used as docking arms, is quite inspired. The subtle greebling along the sides really gives off an industrial utilitarian vibe. I am also fond of the minifig leg with the bridge dangling from it in the bottom right.

Side note: Titolan's Drone Variants, using some new dark orange pieces found in some recent SW sets. The new light grey wrench pieces on the last drone works well for the forklift.

Blue Devil

ll-104c
Courtesy LL-104 by Fazoom
Interplanetary Zone- (BiS) While it may not be prudent or useful in space, aerodynamic design begins to take real meaning when re-entering the atmosphere of a planet. Plus, it'll draw the admiring eyes of space travelers from all around. The LL-104 is the newest ship from the NCS shipyards, and from initial sales numbers, the designers got it right! Not only does this MOC have amazing editing, the blue, trans-yellow, and grey play together in front of the eye in the most pleasing fashion. Not to mention, it looks fast!

Space Mace

Pluto- (BTT) Bad guys need ships too. Darth Vader had the Death Star, The Borg had Borg Ships, and HAL took over the Discovery One. As far as baddie ships go, menacing shapes, big lasers, and large spikes go a long way to asset your dominance over the lesser man (or machine). This beauty of a death machine has all of those great aspects, from its lionfish-esque spike pod, to the large dual laser at the front and the engine hub at the back. The gray scale body, embellished with trans red specks breathes malice, and the rest of the ship is enough to make the most soulless baddie smile.

Swallowtail

Swallowtail - Title1
Courtesy Swallowtail by .Jake
The Swallowtail by .Jake looks very nice, particularly near the back end. I really like how he left most of the studs exposed on the wings, too many builders try to tile everything, leaving blocky edges on wedge plates.

A Hop, Skip, and a Leap

AFS-84 Jackrabbit
Courtesy AFS 84 Jackrabbit by Jeffykins
Uranus- (BTT) Throwing together a spacecraft is a no-go. It takes careful planning, attention to detail, and an active imagination. When it all comes together into one craft, it will probably look something like this. The sleek, downward angled cockpit makes a smooth transition to the wings, and then the engine section. The weaponry smoothly integrates into the craft, without it looking too last-minute and unplanned. Combine that with a no-nonsense pilot and plenty of fuel, and you can accomplish just about anything you need to- for a price, of course!

Falling Skies

NCS LL-1776
Courtesy NCS LL-1776 by OUdaveguy98
Neptune- (BiS) While sleekness can often be a great factor in separating the good MOCs from the great, this amazing spacecraft by OUdaveguy98 has enough smoothness to make it great eye-candy, but enough jaggedness to make it believable as a rough-and-tumble NCS ship that could hold its own in a dog fight. The blue colouring creates a great standout from the grey, while the trans-yellow cockpit and bumblebee stripes give it that NCS flair. And it comes with cup holders, standard!

Black and White

Near Earth Orbit- (BiS) This little space panda doesn't have ANY qualms about blowing your craft out of the vacuum, just as long as it's been ordered to. With pinpoint accuracy, this starfighter from Bam207 doesn't disappoint visually, especially with shaping. The monochrome colour scheme is reminiscent of the Space Shuttle program, and it doesn't looks SO strange as to be outside the dimensions of reality.

The Terminator

T-7 Enforcer 2
Courtesy T-7 Enforcer by Jasbury1
Saturn- (BiS) When the NCS federation needs something to "disappear", they call on the T-7 Enforcer. This slick spacer has ample cockpit space, giant thrusters, those amazing Gatling laser cannons, and those great missile pods. The only problem? Fuel mileage.

Knockout Girls

TF403
Courtesy TF403 by TFDesigns!
Centauri-7 - (BiS) When it comes to combating the looming Blacktron threat, who's the one to call? No, not the Space Police, but... Pinktron!? Yep, those intergalactic beauties really pack a punch, from the two forward facing cannons to the reconnaissance craft on the rear, ready to take the fight to the air. This great mobile command unit even has pet carrying capabilities!

Rapid response refueling tanker

Rapid response refueling tanker
This wonderful refueling tanker by Jason Corlett was actually built over a year ago, but I just now found it. The shape and detailing is nice, but what really caught my attention was the use of several large technic wheels along the middle of the ship.

Pegasus XL

Earth - (BiS) Apojove has built this faithful representation of a Pegasus XL rocket, an unmanned. winged space launch vehicle. The integration of the wings are done particularly well, and he has included a stand to go along with it, making it a nice display for any NASA executive's desk. The icing on the cake however, is the payload of the rocket itself, set off in gold and blue, and using the new 1x1 round tiles. A detailed view of the real-life rockets sections can be seen here.

Super HUD

L1 - Commander
Courtesy L1- Commander by SuperHardcoreDave
Asteroid Belt- (BiS) "Where we're going, we don't need cockpits!" Is what Doc Brown would've said, if this were a DeLorean in an alternate universe. While the view from the inside may not be the best, the view of this ship from the outside is stunning!A great combination of red against darker colours make this even more eye-drawing, and the unique shape definitely is a plus for this MOC. All it needs is a hyperspace flux capacitor...

In Soviet Space...

Yopityer-class experimental fighter

Earth- (BiS) Coming directly from one of the contributing authors of this blog, brickmack brings us a hyper-realistic starfighter. Designed in the vein of the Soyuz spacecraft of the 60's and 70's, this one brings us to the current time, when starfighters are needed to solidify orbital claims, and is not so far removed from probability as to need hundreds of years to have a remote possibility of existence.

Castor Oil

Castor Class Heavy Fighter

Jupiter- (BiS) Ever since seeing this amazing MOC by nate_daly, I've wanted to pay it some sort of tribute. The excellent striping, integration of dark green parts, and ridiculous amounts of SNOT add up to make what looks to be one of the most swooshable spacecraft I've seen in a while! Also, this double cockpit idea seems to be gaining quite a bit of popularity recently, maybe it's no accident....

Soren Class Combat Ship

Soren Class Combat Ship
A wonderful microscale combat ship, built in a very realistic style. Kinda looks like a weaponized, shortened version of the Discovery One from the Space Odyssey series to me. Also in the area of "realistic" LEGO space ships, the Real World Starfighter contest is running until August 1st, on Flickr. Prizes include a Bricklink coupon of up to 60 Euros, provided by Bricklink vendor Morebricks. Click here for full rules.

Night Raptor

RT Raptor MK2 - Title

Mars- (BiS) This awesome starfighter from .Jake is great, and it's only the Mk. II! The brown accents provide just enough contrast between the cockpit and weapons sections, while still keeping the ship flowing as one piece. The angles are also excellent, from the angled tail fins to the downward facing cockpit.

Come in, Red-1

Neo M:Tron Fighter

Venus- (BiS) Ah, M-Tron. Those little space miners who are so good at the job that they hold an intergalactic monopoly on the job. This great recon ship by Blake Foster has all of the elements of the classic M-Tron sets, but with a NCS twist! The engine/wing combo is great, as is the curvaceous shaping! Now, where are those magnets....

Independence Day

Independence Day: White House Scene

Earth- (BiS) When it comes to alien invasion movies, the name Independence Day often comes up. No only does it include lasers, Area 51, and Will Smith, it also has some pretty awesome spacecraft. Halfbreak has created a beautiful Micro rendition of the destruction of the White House from the movie, complete with minifig head trees!

LL-828 Wildgoose

LL-828 Wildgoose by Bricking-it on Flickr
This wonderful Neo Classic Space ship by LL-828 Wildgoose by Bricking-it (Jeremy Williams) is one of the cooler space MOCs I've seen recently. The front of the ship can detach as a small shuttle, and the interior features spots for 4 small "Egg" fighters, and 5 crew. It's lucky it was posted, the builder notes that it was dropped by his son and had to be completely rebuilt.

Mighty Ox

M-170 Ox

Mercury- (BiS) When it comes to spacecraft, Tromas is your guy. This beauty, which could be yours for only $10,000,000 credits, has the brute strength of an exploding sun, but the precision of a gamma ray targeting system. Equipped with all of the necessities, operating it gives the pilot the biggest smile! Or it could be a deadly Nitrous Oxide leak...

Prepare for liftoff...

Hello, this is your capitan speaking!
Due to the constant attention required of a blog with a format like that of FOL-Gallery, I've decided to change the format to that of a Lego Space blog. "Why?" you may ask. Well, aside of Young Spacers associaton, there are no constantly updated Lego Space blogs. Since there is so much content, especially good content, pertaining to the subject of Lego space travel, I felt it would be a better fit than the old style. So strap yourself in, launch in T-minus 10....

Lunar Lander

Contests always seem to encourage great buildings, and this Neo Classic Space themed lunar lander made by Pasukaru76 for the Iron Builder is no exception. Though built at less than minifig scale, it still has some great looking details. I encourage everyone to check out the other builds from this contest, there are many great MOCs (and several NCS) by both contestants.

Baby SHIP

Carrier Bridge WIP
Carrier Bridge WIP by Mike the Maker
(FG)- When Lego fans think of a SHIP, they usually think of a massive minifig scale creation. Mike the Maker (Mike Yoder) takes convention and throws it out the door. Instead, he goes for an amazing 1/4 minifig scale behemoth, and he still isn't done with it!

Also, sorry about the lack of posting- it's Lego contest season, but we'll try our best to keep you updated!

G.A.I.A. HMS Relentless Fire

by Heiwa71.

Taking a quick break from the recent mini modulars posts, here is a spaceship posted earlier today by Heiwa71 (Jon B). According to the description, it's 140 studs long (about 3.5 feet, or a bit over a meter). Looks great all over to me.

Stayin' Small

Mini modulars street
Mini Modular Street by Dakar A
Now, before I star this post, I must admit that I am the creator of this MOC. Or MOCs, since it's actually two units! These are modern and pre-modern buildings, built for the small city! The red building is a miniature version of my Overdale Townhouse, Which was tough to scale down, on account of its odd footprint. Look for more Mini modulars to be posted soon!

Mini Town Hall

Mini Modular Town Hall by Dave Kaleta

I noticed this earlier today during my daily check of the LEGO world, though it was apparently posted almost a month ago for the MOCAthalon.. It seems to have captured
a lot of the design features of the original.

Stroopwafel Shop

Mini Goudse Stroopwafel Shop - 1
Mini Goudse Stroopwafel Shop by Vincent Kessels

When it comes to Mini Modular MOCs, Vincent Kessels was the first one to pick up the baton and run with it. This is a beautiful recreation of his original Stroopwafel shop, fitting in as many details as possible, while still being in Mini Modular scale. The french flag, the tree out front, the small windows are all great details. The tan and brown colour scheme does wonders for the eyes as well!

Mini Modulars!

The craze that's seweeping the nation!

Mini Modular buildings, the craze that's sweeping the nation! Since the release of set 10230, Mini modular MOCs have been popping up around the internet, probably in no small part thanks to the Toys n' Bricks contest.

So, the theme for the uppcoming week will be MOCs of that variety!

Hello!-Bonjour!-Ciao!

Hello, and welcome to the inagural posting of the FOL Gallery! In hopes to reach statuss levels of blogs such as the Brothers Brick, Living Brick, and more, this blog will have multipule teen fan of lego (TFOL) authors, the first two being me and Carson! Look for more posts soon, and improvements in design!
